Ratings: 4.2/5
Milk and Honey is a beautiful collection of poems with a blend of love and life. Every single line pours the feelings and emotions of the poet. This book will make you understand and feel the different moments of our life that flies away unnoticed. In every moment there is a sense of sweetness which we ignore. This book introduces those sweet moments to the reader.
This book consists of four sections, namely – the hurting, the loving, the breaking, the healing. All the parts are described beautifully.
- The Hurting
This part has poems which tell how unkind and hurtful the world has been to the poet. How people always want the poet to be quiet, to not to speak and to be decent. Standing over her feet, they encourage her to stand up for her own. The poet signifies that safety is a mere word, uttered from the mouth of the people with the most harmful arms. From birth till the death, the entire family teaches her that she is nothing.
- The loving
The poems of this section depict the significance of a mother. She tells how she learned the unconditional love of a mother who holds the entire universe in her feet. In this part, she also describes her mate on whom she started trusting. She thought that she has met someone who is going to be true to her. She sees a ray of hope in her mate.
- The breaking
This is the painful part where she describes how she thinks that someone will save her from falling into the pit, but no one is there. She says that she can never forget her mate even if someone else comes in her life. Though her mate has given her the pain, still that one person is her comfortable place.
- The healing
This part is the best one as it shows the way towards peace after all these life heartaches. It says that always ask for the healing who is powerful on his own; not to the one who is broken inside. Your surroundings hold the positive vibes; don’t get lost in them but feel them and be alive with that beauty. Pain is the part of human existence so never be afraid of it. Feel it and then let it go.
In this collection of poetries, Rupi has shown the significance of her mother. Rupi has written this book on behalf of every woman who is existing in this world and who are struggling to stand up for their own.
The best lines in this book are –
“If you are not enough for yourself
You will never be enough for someone else.”
